How many capsules should I take per day?
Typically one to two capsules per day is plenty, unless otherwise directed by a health care professional. It is recommended to take psyllium with meals, and it is important to consume at least 8 oz. of water with your dosage.
Can I take too much psyllium?
Daily recommendations are to not exceed 30-40 grams of psyllium per day, as it may cause gastro-intestinal upset. One capsule of this supplement contains 500 milligrams of psyllium (1000 mg = 1 g).
Is it safe to take psyllium with my medications?
Psyllium is a fiber, and fiber binds with certain substances in the stomach. Therefore, it is recommended to consult with your health care professional to see if it is ok to include supplemental psyllium in your diet. Once safety has been established, it is still recommended to consume fiber supplements at least 2-4 hours before consuming prescription medications.
